We love Newport, Rhode Island! We have vacationed there many, many times, but always in the summer. When I think of Newport, for some reason I think of it as a summer destination. I was so wrong. Newport is so beautiful during every season!
Christmas in Newport
There was an amazing deal through Groupon for The Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina so we snatched it up and stayed for 1 night a few days before Christmas. I just wish we had the time to stay longer!
The hotel was great and so accommodating. The room that we booked did not have a view so we asked if there was any way to upgrade our room upon check-in. They upgraded us to a room with an amazing harbor view at no charge. This was the beautiful sunset from the window in our room! We checked in around 3 pm and got settled in our room.
Newport Sightseeing
We decided to walk around a bit and visit some of the shops before dinner. Everything was decorated so beautifully for Christmas and it was so festive.
We were definitely feeling the Christmas spirit!
After we worked up an appetite we headed over to dinner at the Brick Alley Pub. The restaurant we picked for dinner was based on the recommendation of the gentleman who checked us in at the hotel. We always ask for recommendations when checking in. We have ended up finding so many great restaurants based on locals’ recommendations.
The menu was enormous. I am serious! There were literally so many things to choose from. And they have an amazing salad bar. I would highly recommend dinner here on your Newport vacation.
Now that our bellies were full, we headed back to the hotel for some late evening swimming. The kids were in heaven in this great pool.
Off to the Mansions
The next morning we visited the mansions that Newport is famous for. They were so beautifully decorated for Christmas inside and outside. They have a winter deal to visit 3 of the most popular mansions for one very reasonable price.
We visited the Breakers first. All of the mansions have self-guided audio tours that you listen to with a headphone set. The Breakers was the only one with a family-friendly version. It was like a “find and seek” game for the kids. They point out all kinds of interesting things for the kids to look at and find.
They also talk a lot about the children that lived in the house and really gear it towards families. I would definitely recommend only touring the Breakers if you have children under 12. The audio tours at the other mansions did not keep their interest at all and we left very quickly. They loved the Breakers tour!
Newport was so beautiful at Christmas time! I definitely changed my mind about only visiting there in the summer. We had so much fun on our Christmas in Newport getaway. It definitely got us in the Christmas spirit.
