Can you believe summer is almost over? We were at the store yesterday and literally everything is back to school! This time of year is definitely bittersweet for me. I love the lazy summer days and spending time together as a family, but let’s be honest here, I don’t know if I can take 1 more argument over where to sit on the couch between my kids. One thing I definitely love about summer is not having to pack school lunches. I have gotten out of the routine and I need to kick my butt back into gear.
My kids take a homemade lunch to school every single day. Yes, every day! As a mom, that can be a daunting task at times. Over the years I have tried several items that promised to make packing lunches easier. I’ll share what works best for us and what can make packing lunches a little easier.
#1 Bento Style Lunch Containers
We love PlanetBox lunch containers. They are made from stainless steel, dishwasher safe, and clean easily. They are made out of safe, non-toxic, and recycled materials – safe from lead, PVC, phthalates, or BPA. They have 5 compartments that keep food separate which is great for my kids. I definitely would not put something liquid like yogurt or applesauce though because I think that would leak into the other compartments. PlanetBox is definitely an investment but they will hold up for more than 1 school year. These containers will cost you around $75 each + free shipping and they come with the stainless steel container and a cute lunchbox.
#2 Silicone Cupcake Liners
I purchased these Silicone Cupcake Liners from Amazon. They came with 24 round liners in all different colors. These are great for making muffins or keeping foods from mixing together. For example, keeping veggies and chips separate. They also add a cute little pop of color to any lunch and make foods look more appealing. The price can’t be beat at $5.99!
#3 Disposable Dip Containers
Kids love to dip things! Whether it be veggies in ranch dressing, apples in peanut butter, or pita chips in hummus. If they can dip it, they love it. These Disposable Dip Cups work great to keep messes out of the lunch routine. They are priced at $8.98 for a package of 100.
#4 Thermos Funtainers
Thermos Funtainer Jars are a definite must have! These are stainless steel containers that promise to keep food hot or cold for several hours. I would have to say that it probably won’t keep food hot for 7 hours like it states. 4 hours is probably more realistic. If I use these for soup or Mac & Cheese, I boil some water in a tea kettle in the morning, then pour the water into the empty container and let it sit for 2 minutes. Then pour out the water and add your hot food to the container. This just helps the food stay hot until lunchtime. They range in price, depending on the design you choose, starting at around $14.95.
These are the things that we love! They make packing lunches fun and easy. Hopefully, our tips make your day a little easier. You’ve got this! Happy Back-To-School!!
